Take another look at the persuasive piece of reading/ writing.

What strategies does the author use to try to persuade you?

Below are strategies writers often use for this form of writing.  Read through each

strategy and decide whether the author used that strategy by writing yes or no in the second column. If you write yes, then explain how the author used that strategy.

Logos – Uses logic, numbers, or   facts to support the argument	Yes	She said that, “She’s scared to go out in the sun because of the holes in the ozone layer and she’s scared to breathe the air because of the chemicals in it”.  She presented many good facts to her audience.
Pathos – Appeals to the audience’s emotions	Yes	The speaker said,  “we all are someone’s child”. She makes that audience feel that they should think about it.
Ethos – Tries to build trust and credibility	Yes	The speaker says facts that makes the audience change their minds and think the same way as she does.
Kairos – Builds a sense of urgency   for the cause	Yes	She makes a powerful statement, “If you can’t fix it don’t break it”. This statement reinforces her argument that makes the adults at the UN conference feel that they should do something.

Little Ant

This story is a persuasive writing but in a form of a clip.

The actor portraying the Boy gives several reasons to squash the ant.

These included:

1. Ants can’t feel
2. They are so tiny they don’t look real
3. Ants always take our food

The actor portraying the Ant gives reasons as to why Ants should not be squashed.

These included:

1. Ants are like humans
2. Ants are strong
3. They have a job to do
4. We are to decide what’s right and wrong

Deserving Respect

1. Does the boy like the ant or not? No.  The boy doesn’t like the ant because the ants take our food and truin our picnic.
2. Does the boy respect the ant? No.  The boy doesn’t respect the ant because ants are nothing and worthless.
3. How would the boy show that he respects the ants? The boy can show respect to the ant by treating it nicely.
4. Can you respect something without liking it? Yes

The writer from the advertisement use this phrase “Do Get Caught!”, and repeated throughout the ad.  This writer has used the little girl that she can be an angel so that the will make the audience feel that the little girl is innocent and sweet.  The writer has described to me about what’s inside the egg and what it taste like. The writer tells facts about the Creme Chocolate and showed the Creme Chocolate.

Dinosaur in my background

LI: Write a persuasive piece of writing using Ethos, Pathos and Logos.

Imagine you woke up and saw a dinosaur in your backyard. Should you keep it or give it to a zoo? Why?

I think I shall give it to a zoo that has strong boundaries. Dinosaurs are very dangerous,

strong and unstable to be kept. Also dinosaurs can invade a city and destroy it. Dinosaurs like T-Rex and Stegosaurus can wreck biggest infrastructure there is. It is not safe to keep a dinosaurs at your house or something that is dangerous. So that's why I want to give it to the zoo keepers because they will take care of it and do something with it.
